Purpose of SFPA
SFPA is a non-profit fast pitch softball association serving the youth of our community and their families. The objective and purpose of SFPA is to promote, foster, develop, and maintain recreational and competitive youth softball for girls between the ages of 4 to 16. SFPA provides girls with an opportunity to participate in team sports, to develop athletic skills, to learn the meaning of sportsmanship, to make friends, to develop positive self-esteem and self-confidence and, above all, to have fun.

Sherwood Fastpitch Association (SFPA) is focused on creating a positive environment that develops lifelong lessons and core values for young ladies through the game of softball. SFPA is committed to supporting players with their pursuit and development of their optimal success (Competitive Travel Team Softball, High School Softball, Collegiate Softball).

Competitive Travel Team age levels:
10U: Player must be 10yrs younger prior 1 Jan. of year
12U: Player must be 12yrs younger prior 1 Jan. of year
14U: Player must be 14yrs younger prior 1 Jan. of year
16U: Player must be 16yrs younger prior 1 Jan. of year

Competitive Travel Team Classifications
Travel Team 2nd Year – Competitive Travel Team based birth year and skillset in an age level. Team is formed annually beginning of August. Non-resident may participate as needed with SFPA board approval. Travel team will participate in Fall Ball, then continue play through July of the next year.
Travel Team 1st Year – Competitive Travel Team based on birth year and skillset in an age level. Team is formed annually beginning of August. Non-resident may participate as needed with SFPA board approval. Travel team will participate in Fall Ball, then continue play through July of the next year.

Competitive Travel Team Tryouts
Player tryouts will be conducted by SFPA Board members and all SFPA Coaches.

Date & Time
August 2nd: Pitchers and Catchers (all age groups)
5:30 to 7:00 pm 10U & 12U
7:00 to 8:30 pm 14U, 16U
August 3rd: Position Players (all age groups)
9:00 to 11:00 am 10U
11:00 to 1:00 pm 12U
1:00 to 3:00 pm 14U
3:00 to 5:00 pm 16U
August 7th: Pitchers, Catchers, Position players (Make Up Tryouts)
6:00 to 8:00pm 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U

Additional Information
All players should complete online registration prior to Tryouts @ Sherwood fireballs.com, look for postings on Sherwood Fireballs website or Facebook page for open registration.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before tryout time, to check in.
Players should arrive with gear prepared for tryouts
All players are to tryout for the youngest age group they are eligible for, coaches can determine if a player may be moved up an age level.

Competitive Travel Team Selection
Competitive travel teams will be selected by Head Coach for their given age level. SFPA president, registrar, and 2 additional SFPA board members will also be present during team selection.
Player selection process will be conducted in this order:
Player tryout/evaluation process each age level
Head Coach, Assistant Coach (es), and SFPA Board members
Completion of tryout process the following will meet for team selection
Head Coaches and board members
Head coaches will select players based on players age and skill set. SFPA Board members will be present to supervise and ensure selection process proceeds in line with SFPA purpose statement.
Post team selection, SFPA registrar will contact player/families inviting player to join team, this will happen weekend following tryouts. Player/Family will have 24hrs after notification to commit or decline to the coach/level/team. Player/Family may be invited by multiple teams, it is up to the player/family to accept their coach/level/team of choice.

Competitive Travel Team Player movement post Team Selection
Adding/Dropping Players – Head Coach must have approval from SFPA Board.
Pick up Players – Head Coach will notify the board of pick up players.

Competitive Travel Team Leadership
Head Coach – Selected by the SFPA Board. Overall Leadership/Director travel team. Selects Team roster. Manages team budget. Registers team National Organization (USA Softball). Selects and registers team for competitive tournaments. Develops and implements team practices. Selects and coordinates team Apparel. Supports SFPA programs/events. Responsible for the safety well-being of team.
Assistant Coaches X 2 – Selected by Head Coach. Assist Head Coach during practices and games. Responsible for the safety of team.
Team Parent – Selected by Head Coach. Assist team with coordination and communication from the Head Coach. Also may assist with team banner, fundraisers, team travel planning, and anything the Head coach determines necessary to delegate.

Competitive Travel Team Head Coach selection
SFPA Board Head Coach Selection Committee – Tasked with interviewing and selecting Travel Team Head Coaches. The committee will consist of; member Sherwood High School Softball coaching staff, SFPA board President, SFPA Treasure, SFPA Secretary, and 2 additional SFPA Board members. Committee member cannot also be interviewing for a Head Coach position. Interviews will be held in June prior to Competitive team tryouts.
Interviews will be conducted using standardized Interview questions with 5 categories rated 1 to 5.
Interview Categories – Coaching Experience, Coaching Philosophy, Team Building, Team Management, Community
Coaches will also be asked to discuss their vision for the upcoming season
