Frequently Asked Questions...
Futures TeamsQ: How much does it cost to participate in Futures?
A: For the 2025 season, the registration fee is $200 per player, and also Financial Aid available to families.
Q: When is the Futures season?
A: Futures hold evaluations (not tryouts) in Mid-March, with practices starting in April and games in April and go through the beginning of June. Depending on age and Coach/Team desire and interest, an optional tournament may be added at the end of the season.
Q: Once games begin, do they replace practices?
A: weeknight practices will likely be replaced with games, however Futures will have the option to add practices. This provides the ability to practice on what they see during game.
Q: How does Futures differ from the previous Rec program?A: Futures has shifted towards grabbing those players wanting to focus on the developmental aspects of playing softball. Increasing skills, softball IQ, team mentality and love of the game.
Q: How does Futures differ from the Tournament program?
A: You'll find that we have overlapping ages in both the Futures and Tournament programs. The Futures is more of a spring only option working on development, for those players hoping to play tournament softball one day. They have 2 weeknight practices, which turn to game nights once the game schedule begins. Tournament teams play "year round" where teams are often formed in late summer for Fall, Winter, and through July. The cost for Futures is the SFPA registration fee while the cost for a Tournament player can vary based on Coach determined schedule. The number of tournaments, the caliber of tournaments, the number of players on the roster, the location of tournaments can all impact the cost for a Tournament player. The cost is set and managed by the Head Coach and overseen by our Treasurer.
Frequently Asked Questions...
Tournament TeamsQ: When can I tryout for a Fireballs Tournament team?
A: We hold annual tryouts each summer, typically in August. Occasionally when there are roster openings, we will post information on our social media pages as well as on the Portland Youth Fastpitch FB page.
Q: What does the season look like for a Tournament team?
A: Fireballs tournament teams typically form before Fall season begins. They'll play during the fall at some capacity whether Sunday Fall Ball, or certain Fall tournaments based on Coach's determined schedule. During the winter, teams practice indoors at the Sherwood Field house to keep them together and in softball ready condition for the Spring and Summer season. Final schedules set and determined by the Head Coach.
Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: Individual cost per player will vary by level of play. The Fireballs Organization requires a fall registration fee and a spring registration fee. These help cover organizational costs - think porta potties, player/coach/tournament registration and insurance fees, field and facility rental costs, field maintenance supplies and more. Based on the level and number of tournaments each team decides to play during the season will impact how much families will be asked to contribute.
Q: Do the Fireballs offer financial aid?
A: Yes! Financial aid can be awarded towards the registration fees.
Q: Are there fundraising opportunities?
A: Yes! Each year we offer a number of different fundraisers to help decrease the amount families are asked to pay each year. This includes our annual wreath fundraiser over the holidays and a Flower Basket fundraiser done in the spring. Other fundraisers can be optional based on team preference (like Bottle Drop, Super Bowl Squares, etc.)
